दिगो विकास भनेको

१.       भावी पिंडी को  आबस्यकता पूरा गर्ने बाधा नपुग्ने गरि वर्तमान को आबस्यकता पूरा गर्न गरिने विकास

२.       अनाबिकरनिय प्राकृतिक श्रोतहरुको खपत गर्दा भोलिका  सन्ततिका निम्ति समेत जोगाई राख्न

३.       आर्थिक बिकासको अधिकतम फाइदा लिने तर प्राकृतिक श्रोतको गुणलाई भरणपोषण गर्दै जाने

४.       अहिलेको आबस्यकता उधारो मा पूरा नगर्ने

५.       भबिस्यको उत्पादन बढौंनाका लागि बर्तमानको मागमा बलिदान दिनु पर्ने

६.       भावी सन्ततिको मूल्य, मान्यता र पूर्वानुमान वर्तमानमा नै गर्ने
        

   Sustainable development is maintaining a delicate balance between the human need to improve lifestyle and feeling of well being in one hand and preserving natural resources and ecosystems, on which we and future generation depend on the other hand.

Sustainability refers to the ability of society, ecosystem or any such ongoing system to continue functioning in to the indefinite future without being forced to decline through exhaustion of key resources.” Robert Gilman

Sustainability is the doctrine that economic growth and development must takes place and be maintain over time with in the limit sets by ecology in the broadest sense, by the interrelation of human being and their works, the biosphere and the physical and chemical that govern it. It follows that environmental protection and economic development are complementary rather than antagonistic process.

Sustainability means-

·         Living within the limit

·         Understanding the interconnections among economy, society and environment

·         Equitable distribution of resources and opportunities

बिकसित तथा अल्पविकसित मुलुकमा बढ्दै गएको बाताबरण विनाशलाई रोक्न तथा पुनस्थापना गर्नु अनि बिकासको प्रतिफल बढाई गरिबी देस तथा परिबारको आर्थिक र भौतिक स्तर सुधार गर्नु दिगो बिकासको मूल मर्म हो

येही मर्मलाई सार्थक बनाउन र परिणाममुखी बनाउन स्विडेनको राजधानी स्टकहोम देखि ब्राजिलको रियो द जेनेरियो हुँदै दक्षिण अफ्रिकाको जोहानेसबर्गमा दिगो विकास सम्बन्धि विभिन्न अन्तरास्ट्रिय सम्मेलन आयोजना गरिए | सो दिगो विकास बारेमा आयोजना गरेका एस्ता सम्मेलन, यसबारे प्रयाप्त चासो सिर्जना गरि  दिएपछि यो अबधारणा विश्व ब्यापी भएको हो |

पृथ्बीमा उपलब्ध प्राकृतिक साधन र श्रोतलाई साबा मान्नेहो भने तिनीहरुको समुचित संरक्षण गर्दी त्यसबाट प्राप्त ब्याजमात्र खाने अबधारणा नै दिगो विकासको मुख्य सोच हो

धनि व्यक्ति तथा राष्ट्रको उपभोगमा कुनै कमि नल्याउने तथा गरिब राष्ट्रको भौतिक बिकासमा सहयोग पुरयाउने भएकोले दिगो विकास गरिबी तथा धनि दुबैलाई आफ्नो स्वार्थ पूर्ति गर्न मान्य सम्झौताका रुपमा स्थापित भयो

भविष्यका पिंढीसंग सम्झौता नगरिकनै वर्तमान पिंढीका आबस्यकता परिपूर्ति गर्नु नै दिगो विकास हो
